What the catalog is

The catalog holds every thing you pack, once each. Lists are built from it, so an item you write down today is ready for every trip after this one.

The Catalog tab is where the things you pack live: a T-shirt, a phone charger, a passport. You write each one down once, and from then on you add it to any trip.

A list does not hold its own copies. It points at the items in the catalog, so the same T-shirt can be on five trips at once, and each trip still remembers its own quantity and what is already packed.

Two things follow from that, and both are worth knowing before you edit anything:

  • Change an item in the catalog — its name, its category, its weight — and every list that uses it shows the change.
  • Delete an item from the catalog and it leaves those lists too. The confirmation counts the lists for you before you agree.

It does not work the other way round. Deleting a list removes the trip, and the items stay in the catalog for the next one.

Once some items are filed into categories, the catalog groups them, with anything you have not filed yet in an Uncategorized group at the top.
