Get started with the app

The first launch asks four questions — language, theme, weight units, and whether to start with sample data. Here is what each one does, what the sample data brings with it, and where you land once setup is over.

The app keeps your packing lists on this device: what you take on a trip, how many of each, and what is already in the bag. The first launch asks four short questions, and when you finish you have the app in your language, in the theme you like, and a trip you can open straight away.

Set up the app

Setup has four steps, one question per screen, and no way to skip them. Each answer takes effect while you are still on the step, so you can see what you picked before you move on.

  1. On Step 1. Choose your language, tap the row below it and pick your language. Everything on screen switches to it. The first setup step with the language row set to English and Continue below it
  2. Tap Continue.
  3. On Step 2. Choose your theme, tap the row below it and pick Light, Dark or System. The app repaints as you choose. The second setup step with the theme row set to Light
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. On Step 3. Choose weight units, tap Metric or Imperial. This is how item weights are shown to you everywhere; what you enter is converted for you. The third setup step with Metric selected and Imperial below it
  6. Tap Continue.

Tip: The dots above the buttons count the steps, and Back returns to the one before. Close the app in the middle of setup and it opens on the same step next time.

Choose what to start with

  1. On Step 4. Choose your starting point, tap Sample data included or A clean slate. The last setup step with Sample data included selected and A clean slate below it
  2. Tap Get started.

Nothing is written while you look around the steps — the sample data arrives when you tap Get started, and A clean slate writes nothing at all. Either way the app opens on the All Lists tab.

Setup runs once and has no replay button, so what you chose in it is changed later from the More tab.

What comes with the sample data

Sample data included fills the app with something to look at:

  • Six categories and 18 items in the catalog — T-Shirt, Phone Charger, Passport and the rest — including items no list uses yet.
  • Three templates: More than one day, More than three days and International trip. That uses three of the five templates you can keep; the sixth (Pro) opens a sheet when you save it.
  • One list, Weekend Trip, with ten items on it, packed and unpacked.

All of it is ordinary data you can rename, pack or delete. Weekend Trip is not set as your current trip, so the Current Trip tab stays empty until you pick a trip yourself.
